Harrykuminciamu: The heart of Sicilian wine beats for post-cyclone rebirth

(WR) If the winds of Hurricane Harry have blown with a force unseen in a quarter of a century, the response from Sicily’s wine industry is no less impressive: a storm of solidarity. “Harrykuminciamu” (Harry-let’s start again) is the name of the initiative that on Saturday, March 28, will transform the Benedictine Monastery of San Nicolò l’Arena in Catania into a bastion of hope and renewal.
The regional wine sector, under the aegis of Assovini Sicilia , has decided not to stand by and watch the damage inflicted on the island’s coasts last January. Between January 19th and 23rd, the Mediterranean’s fury brought restaurants, wine shops, and accommodations—natural and longtime partners of Sicilian wineries—to their knees.

“Harrykuminciamu” isn’t just a tasting, but a political and social manifesto for the sector. For the first time, an impressive number of organizations are gathered under one roof: from the major Consortia (DOC Sicilia, Etna, Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Marsala, Pantelleria, to name a few) to associations like the SOStain Foundation, Donne del Vino, and the Movimento Turismo del Vino.
“The event aims to be more than a fundraiser: it’s a collective embrace and a concrete sign of unity between sectors that share a common identity and history,” the organizers explain.

From 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM , the public will be able to enjoy an exceptional food and wine journey. Alongside glasses of the finest regional wines, served by sommeliers from AIS, FISAR, and ONAV, there will be tastings of culinary excellence curated by the Unione Regionale Cuochi Siciliani (Regional Union of Sicilian Chefs). The entire organization is driven by a pure spirit of volunteerism: from the press office to the suppliers, everyone has volunteered to ensure the aid reaches its destination intact.
