(WR) Christian Marchesini will lead the Valpolicella Wine Consortium until 2028. The unanimous election came during the first meeting of the new Board of Directors, which took office following the renewal of the positions voted on by the Shareholders’ Meeting on May 12th. This marks Marchesini’s third consecutive term, starting in 2020, as president of the organization he previously led from 2012 to 2013 and from 2014 to 2016. A record that makes him the longest-serving president in the history of the Consortium . “I face this new mandate with renewed responsibility in a difficult and challenging scenario ,” Marchesini commented. Together with the Board of Directors, we have already identified two key programmatic priorities: further strengthening the national and international promotion of Valpolicella wines and managing production potential to ensure the balance and profitability of the denomination. Among the objectives to be achieved, including in terms of international recognition, is the nomination of the grape setting-aside ritual as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, a successful outcome which could represent a crucial boost.
The Consortium’s vice presidents will be appointed during the next Board of Directors. Christian Marchesini , owner of the Monte Gradella winery in Fumane (Valpolicella – VR), has always had deep ties to the region and the Valpolicella Consortium, where he served on the Board of Directors from 2005 to 2012, when he was first elected president of the organization. He held the position again from 2014 to 2016. After a voluntary break during the following three years, he returned to the Consortium’s presidency in 2020, inaugurating a path of continuity that has now brought him to his third consecutive term. Last April, Marchesini was also elected president of Confagricoltura’s National Federation of Viticulture Products, of which he was previously vice president.
