Dear friends, I admit my crazy love for sparkling wines and specially for the Italian Metodo Classico sparkling wines (the same as Champagne method). Since several years these kind of wines are produced in many Italian regions, not only in those so-called “traditional regions”.
But the first choice for this Blog between Metodo Classico comes from Trentino (both Lombardia  produces many wines Metodo Classico sparkling wine, right on the top). The Trentodoc producers define their excellent wines as “Mountain Bubbles”. Today I will tell about a really number one sparkling wine.

Sorry for the pun, but the sparkling wine you can see in the picture here is really “the Ferrari of Trentodoc”. Pay attention that this sparkling refines on the yeast for over 10 years before disgorging. But above all it is an absolute delight for our senses. An aenological masterpiece by Lunelli brother’s cellar.

In the glass has soft foam, persistent and fine perlage.

I Want to compare this sparkling wine to a sports car that has a fine, gritty and complex motor, wine shows both speed and endurance: quick start, signs of white chocolate and toasted hazelnuts, then candied citrus fruits and even acacia honey delights, litchi, papaya, mango, and even balsamic strips, strong and clear mineral component due to soil from which the Chardonnay grapes was born.

Tasting is definitely fascinating, remarkable freshness, fruity, full-bodied, persistent. Definitely Riserva del Fondatore is an exciting “lap of senses” sipping a calyx. This sparkling wine is both complex and elegant: a pure emotion for noise and palate.

Other nice vintages of this wine are: 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004. Not produced in 2003 vintage.

More technical details. Giulio Ferrari Riserva del Fondatore is a Trentodoc obtained from only Chardonnay grapes grown in Maso Pianizza, a Cru vineyard that is located over 500 meters above sea level. First year of production: 1972. Produced only in the best years. Bottles produced: 35,000.

Designations: DOC means wine from a designated region with winemaking rules that control quality.

Professional journalist and sommelier, from an early age I breathed the scents of the vineyard and tasted the wine in my grandfather's cellar, in Sicily. The multiple life and work experiences brought me first to Liguria, then to the capital. Roman by adoption, but always Sicilian at heart, I am always fascinated by the beauties of our Italy, between territories to explore and typical food and wine.
