{"id":15184,"date":"2017-01-17T11:44:45","date_gmt":"2017-01-17T10:44:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thewinereporter.it\/?p=15184"},"modified":"2024-03-08T14:59:03","modified_gmt":"2024-03-08T13:59:03","slug":"giuseppe-rinaldi-brunate-le-coste-2005-the-traditional-winning-barolo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/winereporter.it\/en\/giuseppe-rinaldi-brunate-le-coste-2005-the-traditional-winning-barolo\/","title":{"rendered":"Giuseppe Rinaldi &#8211; Brunate Le Coste 2005, the traditional winning Barolo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The prototype of an exceptional year for the whole Barolo district is the cru <strong>Brunate &#8211; Le Coste vintage 2005 by Giuseppe Rinaldi.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I had the opportunity to taste it, much to my delight, during the latest<em> \u201cBarolo Brunello\u201d<\/em> held at Montalcino.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15191\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15191\" style=\"width: 169px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15191 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winereporter.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/18-20161112_141459-1-169x300.jpg\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15191\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carlotta Rinaldi shows Barolo Brunate &#8211; Le Coste<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I almost immediately realized that a single glass of this wine encompasses the science and the essence of this land\u2019s own Nebbiolo.<br \/>\nThe Giuseppe Rinaldi estate is, in fact, one of the representatives of classic Barolo, belonging to the traditional school and eschewing more modern techniques.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Giuseppe Rinaldi <\/strong>is one of the key figures of the Barolo movement (a term befitting Barolo\u2019s reputation as an <em>\u201cever moving wine&#8221;<\/em>). He inherited the role from his father <strong>Battista<\/strong>, a stern, strong character who served as mayor of the town of Barolo from 1970 to 1975. Giuseppe himself, also known as<em> Beppe<\/em>, passed on the torch to his daughters <strong>Marta<\/strong> and <strong>Carlotta<\/strong>, who are eager to continue their father\u2019s work<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-15187\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winereporter.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/rinaldi-barolo_b-93x300.jpg\" width=\"108\" height=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since 1993 the winery has been producing two pairs of different blends out of grapes from the estate&#8217;s own historic vineyards: <strong>Brunate and Le Coste<\/strong> on one side (today\u2019s featured wine), <strong>Cannubi San Lorenzo and Ravera <\/strong>on the other. These two wines are sold only <strong>10 years after the original harvest<\/strong>, effectively making them special <strong>reserves<\/strong>. For the aging of wine, only Slavonian oak 30 \u2013 60 hl barrels are employed, as the traditional, time-honored method forbids the use of smaller barrels.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;<\/em><em>I like the taste of the grape, not those of the wood, not the vanilla taste&#8221;,<\/em> usually says Beppe.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So what is this <strong>Barolo Brunate Le Coste of 2005 <\/strong>like? It&#8217;s a wine destined to defy time, sure to delight the senses even after 10 or 20 years. The one I tasted was still relatively young.<\/p>\n<p>It features a red garnet appearance, an intense yet evolved aroma, with small hints of leather, sweet tobacco, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon and a slight floreal texture of violet. It is fine and soft to the palate, with silky tannins, very fresh and pleasant.
